Diwali 2023: In Eternal Religion, there is a tradition of performing Diwali Puja (Mahalakshmi Puja) on the new moon day of Kartik month. Before Diwali, the festivals of Karva Chauth, Gautsav, Dhanteras, Narak Chaturdashi, Choti Deepawali and then Deepawali are celebrated. • 1st Day: Dhanteras – This marks the beginning of the financial year for most Indian businesses. It is also the day of worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.

  

• 2nd Day: Narak Chaturdashi – This is the day of cleanliness. On this day people wear new clothes and various dishes are prepared.
• 3rd Day:  Diwali – This is the day of Amavasya. Diwali is the official day of the holiday.
• 4th Day:  Kartik Shuddha Padyami – King Bali came out of hell on this day and ruled the earth.
• 5th Day: Yama II (Bhai Dooj) – This day reflects the love between brothers and sisters. This day is celebrated in many places in North India.

Diwali is celebrated to celebrate the return of King Ram to Ayodhya and his coronation. Lakshmi is worshiped on this day. And in Bengal, this festival is associated with Mata Kali.

Despite variations between places, the main purpose of this festival is the renewal and removal of darkness. It is a festival full of happiness.

When to worship Maa Lakshmi on Diwali?

Goddess Lakshmi should be worshiped during Pradosh Kaal (three Muhurtas after sunset). It is considered best to perform worship in stable ascendant during the Pradosh period. During this period, when Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius rise in the ascendant, then Goddess Lakshmi should be worshipped. Because these 4 zodiac signs are of stable nature. According to the belief, if worship is done at the time of stable ascendant, then Goddess Lakshmi stays in the house in a partial form.

Lakshmi Puja Vidhi

There is a special tradition of Lakshmi Puja on Diwali. According to belief, Diwali was celebrated to celebrate the return to Ayodhya. Bharat’s mother Kaikai, confused by Manthara’s wrong thoughts, forces Shri Ram to send him to exile from his father Dasharatha. Maryada Purushottam Ram, following his father’s orders, went into exile for 14 years along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman. After completing his 14 years of exile, Shri Ram Ji returned to Ayodhya on the day of Diwali. To celebrate the return of Ram ji, people across the state lit lamps at night and celebrated. Diwali is celebrated from that time onwards.
• On the return of the Pandavas to the kingdom – According to the Hindu epic Mahabharata, the Kauravas had won everything from the Pandavas in the game of chess with the help of Shakuni’s uncle’s trick. Along with this, Pandavas also had to leave the kingdom and go into exile for 13 years. On this Kartik Amavasya, Pandavas returned from 13 years of exile. The people of the state celebrated the return of the Pandavas by lighting lamps.
• Killing of Narakasura by Shri Krishna – Narakasura was the king of Pragjyotishpur city (which is currently in Nepal). With his power, he had troubled all the gods like Indra, Varun, Agni, Vayu, etc 16 thousand women of saints, etc. had been taken captive by Narakasura. When the atrocities of Narakasura increased, the gods and sages took refuge in Lord Krishna and prayed for salvation. Lord Shri Krishna assured him of salvation. On the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, Lord Shri Krishna killed Narakasura and freed the gods and saints from the terror of Narakasura. In this happiness, people lit lamps in their homes on the second day i.e. Amavasya of Kartik month. Since then the festivals of Narak Chaturdashi and Diwali have been celebrated.
• The incarnation of Mother Lakshmi in the universe – Mother Lakshmi had incarnated on the Amavasya day of Kartik month during the churning of the ocean. Lakshmi ji is considered the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Therefore, special worship of Goddess Lakshmi is done on this day. This is also a special reason to celebrate Diwali.
• Coronation of King Vikramaditya – King Vikramaditya was a great emperor in ancient India. Vikramaditya was the last Hindu king to defeat the Mughals. He was a very ideal and generous king. He is always remembered for his courage and protection of scholars. His coronation took place on the new moon day of this Kartik month.

  

Importance of Diwali 

Among all the festivals celebrated in India, Diwali has great importance from both social and religious points of view. It is also called Deepotsav. ‘Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya’ means (O Lord!) take me from darkness to light. This is the command of the Upanishads. People of Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain religions also celebrate this festival. People of the Jain religion celebrate it as Mahavir’s Moksha Diwas and the Sikh community celebrates it as Prisoner’s Release Day.

It is believed that King Ram of Ayodhya returned after his fourteen years of exile on the day of Diwali. Diwali is the festival of cleanliness and light. Preparations for Diwali start several weeks in advance. what to do on Diwali?

• Diwali means on the day of Kartik Amavasya, one should take a bath in the morning after massaging the body with oil. According to belief, doing this does not cause a loss of money.
• On the day of Diwali, people other than elderly people and children should not eat food. Take food only after worshiping Goddess Mahalakshmi in the evening.
• Worship ancestors on Diwali and offer incense and food. During Pradosh Kaal, show the path to your ancestors by holding a meteor in your hand. Here meteor means showing the path to the ancestors in the light of fire by lighting a lamp or by any other means. By doing this the souls of the ancestors attain peace and salvation.
• Before Diwali, at midnight, men and women should sing songs, and bhajans and celebrate at home. It is said that by doing this the poverty prevailing in the house goes away.

 This Auspicious work must be done:

• Mango leaves arch – On the day of Diwali, people get their houses painted to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. And decorate in different ways. But along with all this, you must install a pylon at the door of your house. It is considered very auspicious to arrange a garland of mango, peepal leaves, and marigolds at the main entrance of the house with a garland of flowers on the day of Diwali. Mother Lakshmi is pleased with this.
• Make Rangoli with flowers and colors – The tradition of making Rangoli in the courtyard and doors of the house on the day of Diwali has been going on for a long time. People also make rangoli in their homes at other festivals. Be it lack of time or modernity, nowadays people have started applying rangoli with readymade stickers. But to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, rangoli should be made with flowers and colors and lamps should be lit. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi comes to you after being pleased with this.

  

• Must establish Kalash (Soil Pot) – In Eternal Dharma, Kalash is definitely kept during worship and auspicious works. Even on the day of Diwali, fill a kalash with water and put leaves in it, coconut should also be placed on the mouth of the Kalash. Swastika should be made from Roli or Kumkum and Mauli should be tied on the Kalash. In this way, the Kalash should be prepared and kept at the place of worship.

Light lamps at these places

• On the door frame – If you light lamps on the night of Diwali, then you have to light lamps on both sides of the door frame of the main door of the house. Keep in mind that the lamp should be of oil. It is believed that by doing this there is no shortage of money.
• Under the Peepal tree – On the day of Diwali, you can also light a lamp under the Peepal tree. All you have to do is light an oil lamp and place it under a Peepal tree on Diwali night. It is believed that by doing this Goddess Lakshmi is pleased and there is no shortage of money.
• In the courtyard – Lighting a lamp in the courtyard of the house on the night of Diwali is considered very auspicious. Put enough oil in it so that it keeps burning throughout the night. You should take care that this lamp should not be extinguished at night. By doing this there is no shortage of money.
• In the temple – The way you light a lamp in the temple of your home on Diwali. Similarly, you should also light an oil lamp in the temple near your house. Doing this also helps in removing the shortage of money.

Don’t make these mistakes

• One should never sleep in the evening on Diwali. This leads to poverty as Goddess Lakshmi comes home in the evening and turns back when she sees any member of the household sleeping on the bed.
• On the auspicious day of Diwali, you should respect the elders of your house.
• One should not use abusive words for them even by mistake. By doing this one does not get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi on Diwali.
• People often consume alcohol and intoxicants on the day of Diwali. Don’t do this even by mistake on this day. This brings poverty to the entire house.
• One should not quarrel with any member of the house even by mistake on the day of Diwali. Mother Lakshmi does not reside in the house where this happens.
  Goddess Lakshmi first comes to the house where cleanliness is maintained.
• On the day of Diwali, keep your house clean from wall to floor and make rangoli outside the house. Also, decorate the house with garlands of flowers.
• You should control your speech on Diwali.
• One should not harm anyone by getting angry on this special occasion. Mother Lakshmi may get angry by doing this.

Do not offer these things even by mistake during Lakshmi Puja.

Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu. Tulsi is also called Harivallabha. According to the scriptures, Tulsi was married to Shaligram, the idol of Lord Vishnu. Due to this in a way she became the consort of Goddess Lakshmi in the relationship, hence it is believed that she should not use Tulsi or Tulsi Manjari while offering food or in the worship of Goddess Lakshmi. Due to this, Goddess Lakshmi may get angry with you. Because of this, you have to face money-related problems in life. You should also take care on Diwali and do not offer Tulsi Manjari to Goddess Lakshmi in any way.

Mother Lakshmi has been called the goddess who bestows happiness and good fortune. One should always offer things of auspicious colors like pink, red, etc. to Goddess Lakshmi. Goddess Lakshmi is pleased with this, but one should never offer white color or white clothes in her worship. This is not considered auspicious.

Along with worshiping Goddess Lakshmi, one must worship Lord Gajanand. After worshiping Ganesh, worship of Lakshmi Narayan should be started. Only then the worship of Goddess Lakshmi is completed.
